Our Gold Coast Business Coaches recently attended a business breakfast with the guest speaker being Professor Clive Palmer, a highly successful businessman and one of the wealthiest men in Australia and the world with an estimated worth of AUD$6.5 billion.

In part of his speech he was talking about marketing and promoting the Gold Coast as a tourist destination. Currently the local tourism industry is going through the motions due to the local economy struggling. Clive Palmer said that you need to change your mindset and ensure you don't get bogged down in details. You need to become proactive, think big and expand your target market by looking for larger market places.

He then went on to ask whether Gold Coast Tourism had a strong presence in China. Were they proactively promoting themselves in China, which has approximately 70 cities with a population of 3 million or above?

These questions basically opened people's minds to become creative, proactive and think bigger. By doing this you will feel more excited and invigorated. It will open your mind to bigger possibilities, increased positivity and more hope.

Life Coaching Think Big

Imagine being placed in a boiling pot with the lid on, frustrated, stressed and about to burst....then the lid was suddenly taken off. By thinking big, you lift the lid off the frustration and feel alive again. So how do you start to think big?

Surround yourself with big thinkers - it will rub off on you. If you're not getting this from your family, friends and close associates it is most likely you are not thinking big enough. So how will thinking big help me in my life?

You will find that your problems can be solved if you think with a clear mind free from limitations. In doing so you will be able to achieve significantly more in your business and life. If you are stuck, it will get you out of the rut and move you forward to bigger things. If you get bogged down with details, take yourself out of the situation and start thinking bigger, creatively and out of the box. Thinking big will awaken you to more possibilities. With the assistance of business coaching it will empower you to achieve everything you have always wanted in your business and life.

So why should I think bigger?

  • My first answer would be "why not, isn't it better than being a small thinker?"
  • You will feel more positive, less bogged down and stuck in life.
  • You will become excited for the future and it's possibilities.
  • It will give you more energy and purpose for life, and
  • Give you solutions to your problems.

So how do I think bigger?

  • Learn to become creative by being open minded and keeping a positive attitude.
  • Make sure you have big dreams and surround yourself around big thinkers.
  • Find a good mentor or business coach who will always encourage you and expand your mind.
  • Don't be afraid to make mistakes - just make sure you learn from them.
  • Take action. This is the best way to destroy fear - face it head first!
  • Don't listen to your excuses because they will stop you from achieving great things.
  • Don't lose sight of your dreams - use them to motivate you.
  • Don't listen to small minded negative people and don't let them steal your dream.
  • Always think solutions, not problems and be proactive (remember Clive Palmer).
  • Be a leader in your field, be innovative, bold, make decisions and take action!

So in conclusion, big thinkers like Clive Palmer are creative, not scared of making mistakes, not afraid of other people's opinions - especially small thinking, negative people, and they don't get caught up and stuck in details and limited thinking.

So what has big thinking done for me? It has helped me to stop listening to people saying I can't do certain things. I have also become more influential, achieved many successes and am continuing to implement numerous creative and new ideas.

All successful people are big thinkers, just look at Richard Branson, Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump and of course Clive Palmer. So if big thinking has worked for them and so many others, including myself, why wouldn't you try it out? Why not take action now and get the assistance of one of our Gold Coast Business Coaches to start you on your way to thinking big and achieving great things in your business and life.

So ask yourself "are you thinking big enough"?

I look forward to your responses.

Are you sick and tired of setting New Years resolutions year after year with the best intentions of achieving some great things in your life only to find out that a few weeks into the year they are simply wild dreams that you are no closer to achieving. In fact you realise that you are not going to achieve them, so you simply give up on trying any longer. Year after year the excitement slowly fades to disappointment and discouragement.

So you might ask, "what do I need to change to finally achieve my New Years resolutions?"

New years resolutions

Let's start with the real truth and take a good hard look at ourselves personally. To achieve any goals you have to be brutally honest and ask yourself the tough questions. So here they are;

Am I capable of achieving them? You must have the self awareness to identify whether you are actually capable of achieving them. If not, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Am I worth it? You must have the self esteem to say that I am worth achieving this goal.

Is it possible? You must have the self confidence to believe that your goal is possible, and

Do I deserve them? You must have the self belief to believe that you do deserve to achieve your New Years resolutions.

If you don't work on these issues first you are most likely setting yourself up for failure once again this year.

So now we have the tough questions out of the way, let's work on the next set of questions you need to ask yourself in order to achieve your New Years resolutions. Here they are;

Do you really want it? or put another way, do you want it bad enough?  This is very important when you are in the process of setting your New Years resolution. Is it just a wish, a pipe dream or is it something that you seriously want? In other words, what are the consequences if you don't achieve them? If you cannot live with the consequences, you seriously need to achieve them. The next question you need to ask yourself, which goes hand in hand with this one is;

What sacrifices are you prepared to make to achieve it? This one can be the sticking point for many of us. If you are not prepared to make the necessary sacrifices, save yourself the heartache and don't even bother making the resolution. Seriously, if you do not have the discipline and you know it, then there is little doubt as to the reason you never achieve your New Years resolutions. If you have had difficulty in the past achieving your New Years resolutions, then you need to ask yourself;

Are you ready for change? Albert Einstein is reported to have said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." So if you have not achieved your New Years resolutions in the past, are you doing anything different this year to ensure you give yourself a chance at attaining them? Seriously you need to change if you want results this year. The question you need to ask yourself is "are you ready for change?" So you answered yes. That's great, you are ready for change. The next question is;

Do you have a support network around you? So you really want your New Years resolutions, you are prepared to make the sacrifices to ensure you get them, and you are prepared to change to succeed. Finally you need to ensure you have the appropriate support network around you. This is often the final hurdle to negotiate to ensure we succeed. We have all the best intentions but we don't have the support to keep us motivated and disciplined through the tough times. We don't have anyone to hold us accountable to our plans to achieve our resolutions. Close friends and family may provide this support, but are they really that concerned about your goals and whether you achieve them? are they appropriately qualified to assist you? A life coach or mentor are both excellent sources of knowledge, support, accountability, motivation, empowerment, encouragement and an unbiased sounding board for you to finally achieve your New Years resolutions.

The above questions and discussion are the starting point for successfully achieving your New Years resolutions. Once you have these in place you are well on the road to success. At Global Innovative Coaching we are able to work with you to professionally plan and set detailed goals, develop action plans and time management strategies, and ultimately empower you to ensure 2012 is your best year ever!
